Aluminum Castings for Blood Analyzer
This is a set of moving and static parts that I converted from plaster-cast and hog-out to die-casting for a large multinational laboratory equipment manufacturer. The device is a complex wet-chemistry blood analyzer, with rapid throughput and extremely high reliability requirements.
Redesign achieved the major goals of higher quality and increased structural rigidity while showing an ROI of less than 12 months. I was responsible for all part design and full documentation to internal customer standards.
An unusual requirement on this project was to maintain both the mass and rotational moment of inertia for the moving parts, so that field replacement of individual components would not require recalibration of motion controllers.
